Benefits At-A-Glance (US OFFICES)

The Action Against Hunger offices in New York City and Washington, D.C. offer a competitive compensation package.

Health Insurance

From your very first day of employment, we provide access to a comprehensive in-network medical plan through United Healthcare Oxford Freedom, which includes a prescription drug plan. Coverage is available for you and eligible dependents. Action Against Hunger contributes 80% of the monthly premium and funds 100% of the annual deductible.

Dental Insurance

Our dental insurance plan provides comprehensive coverage for preventive and major dental procedures. From your first day, you and eligible dependents will be covered under this plan. Action Against Hunger covers 100% of the premiums through Guardian Life Insurance.

Vision Insurance

Our vision insurance covers general vision prescription care, glasses, and lenses every calendar year. You and your dependents will automatically be eligible for this. Action Against Hunger covers 100% of the premium through Vision Service Plan (VSP).

Commuter Savings Program

You can choose to participate in the WEX commuter saver program, which will enable you to pay your commuting costs on a pre-tax basis.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

You will be able to establish reimbursement accounts, also called Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), to pay for out-of-pocket health care and dependent care costs through WEX. The accounts are funded by the employee on a pre-tax basis.

403(b) Retirement Plan

You will be able to contribute to your retirement savings through our tax-deferred investment 403(b) retirement plan with Principal Financial Group. Regular full-time and eligible part-time employees may contribute a percentage of their annual base salary or a set dollar amount. Action Against Hunger offers an annual employer contribution after a 6-month waiting period and will vest any contributions after 3 years of service.

Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance

Action Against Hunger provides Short Term Disability Insurance to guard against loss of income due to a disabling illness or injury. We also provide Long Term Disability Insurance to guard against complete loss of income due to lengthy periods of disabling illness or injury. Action Again Hunger covers 100% of the premiums through Guardian Life Insurance.

Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Plan

Action Against Hunger provides basic life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance. Action Against Hunger covers 100% of the premium through Guardian Life Insurance.

Travel Accident and Assistance Insurance

Action Against Hunger maintains travel accident insurance for all employees traveling domestically or abroad on Action Against Hunger business. Travel assistance services are provided to employees travelling 100 miles or more from their permanent residence or in another country which is not their country of residence.

 

Vacation Days

Action Against Hunger offers a generous leave package on an annual basis which includes: 18 vacation days, 12 sick days, and 4 Summer Fridays (total 34 days a year).

★ First and Second year of service = 18 vacation days ★ Third and Fourth year of service = 21 vacation days ★ Fifth year of service = 24 vacation days

Part-time employees will accrue vacation prorated according to work hours.

Sick Leave Days

If you are a full-time employee, you will accrue one day of sick leave each month, up to a maximum of 12 sick leave days per year. Eligible part-time employees also accrue sick leave, prorated to work hours.

Summer Fridays

Depending on your start date, you will be eligible for up to four paid Summer Fridays off per calendar year, which can be taken between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

U.S. National Public Holidays

Action Against Hunger observes 11 national holidays per year. The afternoon preceding any of the 11 public holidays is a half-day office holiday, where the office officially closes at 1:00 p.m.

Parental Leave

Action Against Hunger offers paid time off parental leave of 10 weeks for both parents.

Action Against Hunger’s International offices offer a competitive total rewards package.

Salary & Taxes

Action Against Hunger pays salaries in USD on a monthly schedule. Action Against Hunger USA pays local income taxes on behalf of the employee. The employee is responsible for their own income tax in their home country.

Health Insurance

From your very first day of employment, staff and dependents are entitled to Medical, Vision, and Dental coverage and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – Professional Counselling Services. Action Against Hunger USA covers 100% premium. The plan is through CIGNA Global.

Medical Evacuation

Action Against Hunger USA offers medical evacuation to the staff and dependents at post.

Childcare/Education Allowance

Child allowance is given to staff on accompanied status only. This will be reimbursed in the country where the position is posted, for a maximum of 4 children. Children who are eligible for this allowance include newborns up to children 18 years of age (or children enrolled in High School/Secondary school).

Retirement Plan

Action Against Hunger offers a retirement plan to all employees and makes an employer contribution of 5% of their base annual salary. Eligibility to receive the employer contribution starts after 90 days in the role.

Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Plan

Action Against Hunger provides basic life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance. Action Against Hunger covers 100% of the premium through CIGNA Global.

Accommodation (Housing)

Action Against Hunger USA will provide accommodation to all staff deployed to the country offices.

*** In the case of accompanied staff working on USG-funded projects, and so long as an employee is 100% billable to a USG-funded project, this benefit will be reviewed and re-negotiated based on availability of project funds and based on USG regulations. In the case the market rent is higher than the USG DSSRT allowable rates, Action Against Hunger USA will explore requesting client approval for LQA approval.

Relocation

Action Against Hunger USA will pay for air tickets from an employee’s home of record to the assignment and return to the home of record at the end of the assignment. Dependents for staff on accompanied status also receive this benefit. Employees with a contract of 12 months or longer also receive an additional luggage allowance.

*** In the case of accompanied staff working on USG-funded projects, and so long as an employee is 100% billable to a USG-funded project, the relocation and shipment of household effects (HHE) benefits will be reviewed and re-negotiated based on availability of project funds and based on USG regulations.

In-Country Movements

International staff are allowed to drive their own car if they have a valid driving license and receive driving approval from the Action Against Hunger USA and the Country Director.

*** In the case of staff working on USG-funded projects, and so long as an employee is 100% billable to a USG-funded project, Action Against Hunger will seek appropriate USG-approval for the use of staff to drive project vehicles outside of working hours.

Parental Leave

Parents who give birth, and who have an employee agreement that is greater than 12 months, are entitled to 16 weeks (80 working days) of parental leave.

Parents who are not delivering the baby, or who have worked more than 6 months but less than 12 months with Action Against Hunger in their current assignment, are entitled to 4 weeks (20 working days) of parental leave.

Bereavement Leave

All staff are entitled to 2 weeks (10 working days) of bereavement leave for the death of immediate family members.

Public Holidays

Action Against Hunger observes public holidays based on country assignment.

Annual Air Ticket to Home of Record

We provide annual tickets from assignment to the home of record for employees with employment agreements of more than 12 months. This includes both dependents and accompanied staff.
