Severe acute malnutrition kills more than two million young children every year.
Halima was nearly one of those children. Mother Fatuma brought her 20-month-old daughter to an Action Against Hunger treatment center in Somalia, where she was diagnosed with life-threatening hunger. Her skin was peeling, and her hands and feet were swollen. Halima urgently needed medical help.
Halima received emergency care and was admitted for intensive treatment. It took just six weeks to bring Halima back from the brink with a course of lifesaving therapeutic food. What could have been a devastating situation turned into one of relief and joy.
Action Against Hunger has proven treatments to save the lives of malnourished children. Ninety percent of children who complete treatment are cured. For more than 45 years, we have been dedicated to a single mission: to find the best solutions to hunger and malnutrition.
