The global humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger honoured Anderson at its 9th annual Action Against Hunger Humanitarian Award for bringing some of the most glaring humanitarian tragedies into focus for the American public and for his ongoing coverage of key global issues.
"Look around, there's only old trees here," said Joaquín Cadario, an agronomist at Action Against Hunger, a nongovernment organization backing the initiative, per the Guardian. "If you had a village with just old people, it will die out at some point. It's the same with trees."

Aid groups including Mercy Corps and Action Against Hunger have reported a handful of deaths among malnourished children whose parents were unable to access treatment in Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria when U.S.-funded programmes were halted following Trump's Jan. 20 executive order suspending foreign assistance pending a 90-day review.
“What makes the situation in Lebanon especially devastating is how multiple crises are exacerbating one another, creating a perfect storm of humanitarian needs. We are witnessing what happens when conflict, climate change, and economic collapse intersect, and the results are catastrophic for the communities we serve,” writes Director of Action Against Hunger in Lebanon, Suzanne Takkenberg.
This decision surprised so many this nation "is considered exemplary in terms of reception," recalls Ritah Kabanyoro, director of Action Against Hunger in Uganda. With 1.93 million refugees, Uganda, with a population of 50 million, is today the continent's leading land of asylum, with more than half of its inhabitants being South Sudanese. They numbered just over 500,000 ten years ago. “Here, refugees don't end up in camps, but in villages where they have access to social services [health, education] and to work. They "They can do almost everything like the Ugandans," she points out.
Action Against Hunger launched a grassroots campaign in Somalia by establishing community call centers to improve aid reporting measures. The approach helps track aid deliveries in areas affected by limited resources and conflict. Addressing these issues is essential because Action Against Hunger reports that limited road access and control of territory by non-state actors significantly contribute to aid diversion. The organization hired and trained local volunteers in tracking and reporting aid deliveries.

“You enter the AgriZone and you have the screens around you and this really immersive experience showing degraded soils and forest fires, but there is nothing connecting it to how industrial agriculture is one of the reasons these things are happening,” Marie Cosquer, an advocacy analyst for food systems and climate at Action Against Hunger, told me.
