The State of Hunger in the Philippines

The Philippines is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world, suffering from typhoons, flooding, droughts, and disease outbreaks. Additionally, rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and extreme weather events continue to displace thousands of people. Economic pressures and disruptions in food supply chains have driven up the cost of essential goods, worsening food insecurity and malnutrition, particularly among children under five.

How We're Helping in the Philippines

Action Against Hunger’s food security and livelihood programs provide emergency cash assistance and livelihood support in disaster-affected areas. We also address disease outbreaks and improve access to clean water through our water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives. Health programs expand primary healthcare and nutrition services, with a focus on maternal and child health, and integrate mental health and psychosocial support.

Our disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation efforts enhance early warning systems and risk mitigation strategies in vulnerable areas. These interventions enhance food security for affected households, strengthen local health systems, and reinforce community resilience to climate and disaster risks.
