The State of Hunger in Syria

Recurring disease outbreaks, prolonged drought, and food insecurity contribute to rising premature death and illness rates and heightened levels of malnutrition. More than a third of the population is facing hunger, and the cost of essential food items has more than doubled in recent years. Following many years of conflict and the resulting economic crisis, 90% of the population lives below the poverty line.

How We're Helping in Syria

Our teams provide targeted nutritional support and lifesaving treatment for malnutrition in children and pregnant and lactating women to combat rising rates of malnutrition. We also improve access to clean water and safe sanitation by rehabilitating damaged water systems, trucking water to remote areas, and promoting hygiene practices.

In the areas of food security and livelihoods, we provide seeds, tools, and training to help farmers sustain their income. Our multi-purpose cash assistance programs help families purchase essential items, including food, healthcare, and shelter. In the healthcare sector, we rehabilitate facilities, supply medical essentials, and deploy mobile health units to reach those in need.
