Famine Declared in Sudan
Famine Declared in Sudan
Cameroon is affected by three major crises in the Far North, the English-speaking regions, and the East. The situation is worsened by structural problems, rising insecurity, underfunded humanitarian aid, and climate shocks, including droughts and floods. Over three million people are facing acute food and nutritional insecurity, and 3.4 million people need humanitarian aid.
Our health and nutrition programs strengthen the health system with mobile clinics in remote areas and provide community-based management of childhood illnesses, including malnutrition.
In the area of food security, we provide food assistance during emergencies and during the lean season between planting and harvesting, when food availability is at its lowest. We also support sustainable farming, the professionalization of agricultural cooperatives, and the integration of young people into the workforce. We contribute to the national response plan for food insecurity and help communities manage their natural resources, prevent agro-pastoral conflicts, and establish contingency stocks.
In water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), we strengthen water supply systems in communities and health centers in the most vulnerable areas, as well as medical waste management. All projects are localized to ensure sustainable development and include gender equality and protection from violence.
People Need Humanitarian Assistance
People Are Food Insecure
At our Farmer Field Schools, agriculture experts teach farmers climate-smart growing techniques, introduce nutritious, resilient crops, and provide small plots for people to test what they’ve learned before they put them in practice at home.
Food Security & LivelihoodsWe respond to immediate crises by providing emergency aid and, at the same time, we partner with communities to build long-term resilience to help them prevent hunger and cope with future shocks.
Emergency ResponseTo better predict and respond to food crises, our teams are developing an early warning system for acute hunger emergencies.
Nutrition & HealthMore than 95% of our staff come from the communities we serve.
