Famine Declared in Sudan
Bangladesh is grappling with a deepening humanitarian crisis driven by repeated natural disasters and high rates of food insecurity. In 2024, natural disasters left 19.7 million people food-insecure, with 41% of the population lacking access to clean water and 61% lacking adequate sanitation. Malnutrition rates continued to escalate, with 11% of the population experiencing severe malnutrition that requires urgent treatment.
Since 2007, Action Against Hunger has been actively addressing the multifaceted humanitarian challenges in Bangladesh, including climate disasters, food insecurity, malnutrition, and the influx of one million Rohingya refugees. We partner with local organizations to implement innovative projects focused on climate-adaptive technologies, climate resilience, sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure, youth entrepreneurship, and gender-sensitive livelihoods support.
Action Against Hunger teams in Bangladesh assist the government with cyclone preparedness, using artificial intelligence to model and mitigate these events. We also treat thousands of children suffering from severe and moderate malnutrition and provide psychosocial support to individuals in need.
