Famine Declared in Sudan
Yemen is facing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with 74% of the population living in extreme poverty and famine conditions reported in the districts of Lahjj and Ta’izz. The humanitarian crisis has been worsened by ongoing geopolitical tensions — including the conflict with Israel and the increased isolation of the Houthis — and a serious cholera epidemic that affected 250,000 people.
Our teams in Yemen respond to emergencies and provide integrated health and nutrition services, including the treatment of severe and moderate acute malnutrition. These activities have benefited more than 500,000 people, significantly reducing mortality and morbidity among vulnerable groups. We have also improved access to clean water and safe sanitation facilities in areas hard hit by drought.
Our mental health and psychosocial support services primarily serve women, adolescents, and children, improving the well-being of communities affected by the crisis. In the wake of cholera epidemics, Action Against Hunger strengthened its emergency response capacity to respond more effectively in the event of a sudden-onset crisis.
