Severe food insecurity affects more than 25.4 million people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A recent IPC report stated that 1.4 million children are suffering from severe acute malnutrition. A total of 7.8 million people are internally displaced. The country is also affected by several epidemics, including cholera, measles, and malaria.
In North Kivu, we provide healthcare and mental health services to conflict-affected populations, build emergency sanitation facilities, and distribute hygiene kits. In Ituri, we treat severe acute malnutrition, support the health system, provide food aid, and support agricultural revival.
In Kasai Oriental, we run an agricultural recovery project to improve food security. In other regions, such as Mai Ndome, Kasai Central, and Maniema, we provide emergency health and nutrition assistance for children under five, support the management of severe acute malnutrition, strengthen the health system, and conduct community nutrition activities, including during disease outbreaks.
