An Action Against Hunger social worker with a woman in South Sudan.

When violence erupted in Sudan's Abyei region, Adut Monywiir had no choice but to flee with her five children.

For six harrowing days, they trekked without food or water. By the time they reached South Sudan, her youngest child was severely malnourished.

Action Against Hunger's emergency team provided life-saving treatment, clean water, and psychosocial support. Beyond immediate relief, the team equipped Adut with skills to prevent illness and malnutrition, as well as livelihoods training to rebuild her future.

Today, she earns an income and dreams of opening her own hair salon.

My life before Action Against Hunger's program compared to now is very different. Before, I was suffering. My children were sick. When the emergency team intervened, my life changed. I am grateful to Action Against Hunger for the services they give.”
