The State of Hunger in Turkey

In February 2023, Turkey was devastated by two powerful earthquakes that killed more than 50,000 people and impacted the lives of more than nine million. Additionally, the nation hosts millions of refugees, primarily from Syria, and is experiencing a deep economic crisis.

How We're Helping in Turkey

Following the earthquake, Action Against Hunger launched an immediate emergency response to address critical needs in water, sanitation, nutrition, food security, and mental health. Working closely with local partners, we focused on reaching vulnerable groups, including children and refugees.

Our mission ended in December 2024 after successfully supporting recovery and strengthening local capacities. We focused on transferring knowledge and tools to local partners, enabling them to continue their work independently. Our teams continue to monitor the situation in the region, having built partnerships with local actors that would allow us to reactivate an emergency response if necessary.
